Flying I 2015, ink on board, 26 x 36 cm

figure

In 2013, in the wake of a milestone birthday, I bought a second-hand racing bike and began to cycle for the first time in years. The small painting, Flying VI, was made around that time and the remainder of the series thereafter. Cycling, even at my moderate pace, felt like flying, and I sought to convey not just the movement and thrill, but the complete solitude of the rider, alone on the open road. I did my first, possibly only, triathlon a year later.
